About John's Salt Service
OUR STORY
In 1963, John P. started a one-man salt delivery business out of his garage in San Jose, California. What began with a single truck and a handshake has grown into one of the West Coast’s most trusted bulk salt distributors.
More than six decades later, John’s Salt Service Inc. (JSSI) is still family-run and still guided by the same principle: take care of your customers and the business takes care of itself. Today we operate from a 45,000 sq. ft. distribution center in Hayward, CA, serving water treatment plants, food manufacturers, industrial facilities, laboratories, and chemical producers across multiple states.
We are a certified, full-service distributor carrying an extensive catalog of salt products — from pharmaceutical-grade USP salt to bulk road and agricultural varieties. Our team knows this industry inside and out because many of us have spent our entire careers here.

Our sales and logistics team brings over 50 combined years of hands-on experience in salt sourcing, handling, and distribution. That depth of knowledge means we can help you identify the right product for your application, recommend the most efficient packaging and delivery method, and troubleshoot supply challenges before they become problems.
From the moment you place an order to the day it arrives at your dock, a real person is managing the process. We staff our own warehouse, run our own loading operations, and personally inspect every outbound shipment. It is that level of involvement that keeps our damage rate near zero and our customers coming back year after year.
BUILT FOR THE WEST COAST
Our Hayward distribution center was designed from the ground up for high-volume salt logistics. The facility features a drive-through warehouse layout that accommodates over 450 truckloads of inventory, pneumatic blower truck access for direct silo fills, and early-morning dock operations starting at 4:00 AM.
After more than 30 years operating out of Newark and the closure of the Morton plant, we relocated to Hayward to better serve the entire West Coast corridor — from Washington and Oregon down through Utah and across California. Our on-site outlet store also gives local customers a convenient option for smaller orders.
